Biebuyck: precision machining has its place at the table

Published on 28/03/17

A wine glass and a water glass: two ordinary objects you always see on a festive table. However, we don’t think about the high precision machining that goes into making these glasses. For example, finishing the rims of these glasses is really an art form that requires a lot of innovation.

In this world unknown to the general public, Biebuyck, a member company in Houdeng-Goegnies (Hainaut), has become a reference in the Belgian manufacturing industry and worldwide. This family business develops machines and production lines for finishing the rims of glasses, the manufacturing of vases and the creation of decorative objects made from glass and crystal. This activity puts them in a niche sector where exceptionally strict requirements must be met.

More than just with its products, Biebuyck distinguishes itself by constantly innovating and succeeding in incorporating ultramodern technologies into its equipment. The development of these advanced machines using laser techniques and digital control family was a turning point for the company. “Our clients can significantly minimise the costs of finishing glasses with these machines, which are also designed to maximally guarantee the safety of operators”, explain Yannik Ruffel and David Cuvelier, Managing Directors.

The development of these new machines is the result of high tech research on the physics of laser beams and their efficient transfer towards a goal, research that was carried out at the company, as Biebuyck has an engineering and design department that masters 3D techniques, a vital asset for testing and realising new ideas.

Continuously striving for improvement was rewarded as Biebuyck machines have found their way into every continent and are highly valued by all glass manufacturers. It is a nice example of the value placed on the talent of the Belgian manufacturing industry.
