Status of the EPBD recast with regard to the calculation of the life-cycle Global Warming Potential (GWP) of new buildings and its transposition in the Belgian regions
The revision of the Energy Performance of Buildings Directive (EPBD), Directive (EU) 2024/1275, introduces a significant extension of the existing energy performance framework for buildings. In addition to the existing focus on operational energy performance, the directive now explicitly includes the assessment of greenhouse gas emissions over the entire life cycle of new buildings, known as Life-Cycle Global Warming Potential (LC-GWP), which quantifies the total climate impact of a building from the production of building materials to end-of-life processing.
