Data here, data there, data everywhere. Data rules. It is the engine of innovation, as well as competitiveness, both in manufacturing and digital companies. Those who have data – for example, who the customers are, the target group and what they want – can graft their business operations onto it.

Digitisation? All well and good, but that valuable data is also a strategic vulnerability: cyber-attacks are becoming increasingly sophisticated, and with the revolutionary rollout of countless AI applications, the risks are not getting any smaller.

For every action, there is a reaction. In this way, Europe anticipates everything that is yet to come with a tightened legal framework. The NIS2 Directive and the Cyber Resilience Act require organizations to systematically identify risks, report incidents, and implement robust security measures, with severe penalties for non-compliance. In addition, the Data Act and the AI Act introduce new rules for data sharing and the use of artificial intelligence, which will come into force step by step and require timely preparation. ICT standardisation, mandatory e-invoicing and evolutions in CE marking also influence the organisation of digital products and production processes.
