itsme: “If it can’t keep it simple, it’s no good”
The identity app itsme is one of the simplest apps on everyone's phone. Two screens are enough to access all the capabilities of the app: logging into a government service, sharing data with a bank, confirming a transfer, digitally signing a contract, or making a payment. Their motto is: 'If we can't keep it simple, it's not good.'
Simplicity and security
The simplicity on the user side contrasts sharply with the complex service itsme provides. More specifically, it connects with privacy-sensitive data whereby users retain control. "Security, privacy, and user-friendliness are our three core values. They are also deeply embedded in our product," says Tom Van Den Bosch, Chief Product Officer at itsme.
Reliable sharing
itsme services and values are crucial not only for citizens but also for businesses. "Security and control over data are very important for citizens. But our B2B customers also benefit from this security narrative. Customers often have multiple profiles now. We are working on standardisation where each user can be uniquely identified. Because data can be easily shared, very complex processes are handled digitally and easily. Customers in the financial sector are a case in point. It used to take three weeks, with an office visit. With itsme, everything is carried out in a few clicks, including signing contracts. The result is that a bank can now create a new customer in just 3 minutes."
Authentic source
itsme will expand its ecosystem further in the near future so that data other than identity data can be shared. "We choose not to manage the data ourselves. We don't copy them. Instead, we collaborate. This is also a sustainable choice for less storage and more efficient data management. This ensures that data with a validity period (such as a driving license) are always up-to-date. Moreover we enable citizens to exchange an increasingly broader dataset in various domains through connections with data sources. For example, when you rent a car, you can share your driving license with the rental company."

This case is a practical example from 'Technology for a better world', Agoria's sustainability strategy for the technology industry. That strategy contains a roadmap with concrete commitments linked to measurable performance indicators that companies can work on, divided into 12 action domains. itsme's case illustrates the action domain 'Data economy'.
