The FPS Economy - DG Energy and the Agoria Energy Technology Club, have the pleasure to invite you on Thursday 6 February 2020 for the presentation of the “World Energy Outlook 2019”.
At this occasion, Dr. Fatih Birol, Executive Director of the International Energy Agency (IEA), will present the key findings of the World Energy Outlook 2019 (WEO).
The presentation will be followed by an interactive debate between Dr. Fatih Birol, Mr. Yves Vercammen, Director Transformation Projects of Fluxys and Mrs. Annemie Vermeylen, Secretary General of the Belgian Offshore Platform (BOP), during which the audience can participate through several live polling rounds.
About the World Energy Outlook 2019
The World Energy Outlook series is a leading source of strategic insight on the future of energy and energy-related emissions, based on outlooks for all fuels, technologies and regions, based on the latest market data, policy initiatives and cost trends.
The WEO offers energy decision makers a hard, evidence-based look at where they stand and the implications of the choices they make. The publication does not provide a forecast of what will happen. Instead, it provides a set of scenarios that explore different possible futures, the actions – or inactions – that bring them about and the interconnections between different parts of the system.
This year’s Outlook includes a special focus on two critical areas:
- Offshore wind: the technical potential for offshore wind is huge, and investment in Europe’s North Sea has underscored the scope for technology cost reductions and performance gains. This analysis explores the prospects for growth in leading markets around the world, the conditions and infrastructure that can facilitate this growth, and the contribution that offshore wind can make to a secure transformation of the power sector.
- Future of gas infrastructure: how does the role of gas networks evolve in a low-emissions energy system in which electricity takes a larger share of final consumption? This chapter examines the options to reduce the emission intensity of gas supply, primarily via hydrogen and biomethane, and considers the implications for policy design, emissions and energy security.
